This is an extremely rare opportunity to own two pieces of Qing Dynasty Rose Medallion porcelain purchased on a honeymoon … Read more This is an extremely rare opportunity to own two pieces of Qing Dynasty Rose Medallion porcelain purchased on a honeymoon trip to San Francisco in the 1950's, at which time they were appraised and authenticated dating to 1835-40. The paperwork has been lost to time, but those who are familiar with the hallmarks of 19th century Rose Medallion will recognize the hallmarks that authenticate it to the period.

The larger of the pieces is a well and tree platter in ovoid form, raised on two feet to one side, and a large circular platter. They are well made and fired, no crazing, and sit flush with no rocking or tilting when on a flat surface. The interiors of both are brightly enameled with male and female courtesans in a pavilion setting surrounded by a band of birds and butterflies amid blossoming flowers. The hand decorated enamel design work is detailed and crisp, applied by a steady hand with vivid colors. The underside is unmarked and unglazed, further attesting to its age of 1835 and very early pieces of Rose Medallion Export Porcelain China.

Both are in very fine condition for being almost 200 years old. There are no major chips or cracks, the glazing and gilding still bright and colorful with very little fading. The faces of the courtesans are still clear and the butterflies and birds are stunning to look at. See less
