Crafted in France circa 1870, the petite rectangular mirror is distinguished by its tall, ornate pediment and intricate relief ornamentation, reflecting the decorative craftsmanship of the Second Empire period.

The mirror is crowned with an elaborate triangular crest centered on a sculpted classical cherub with outstretched arms, surrounded by deeply embossed C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and flowing foliage. The richly decorated frame features additional floral and foliate motifs, with scrolling ornaments accenting the corners and borders. The original beveled mercury glass is surrounded by narrow inset mirror panels, creating a layered reflective effect that enhances the decorative composition.

The intricate brass repoussé work displays remarkable detail, with raised ornamentation contrasting against recessed areas to create depth and texture. The warm gilt patina accentuates the sculptural relief and lends the piece its authentic antique character. The reverse retains its wood backing and is fitted with a hanging wire for vertical display.

Ideal for a powder room, hallway, entryway, or above a small console, this antique Napoleon III mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its beautifully aged gilt finish and original mercury glass.
