This piece features an abstracted composition of city … Read more Very large and colorful watercolor painting by Helen Sophia Barth, circa 1950s. This piece features an abstracted composition of city architecture with buildings and skyscraper towers using color blocks to depict an urban skyline scene with a water tower in the distance. Executed on heavy watercolor art paper, signed lower right. Ms. Barth (1920-2012) was an accomplished and prolific midcentury painter hailing from the Philadelphia PA area. She was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. Her artistic training came from the Fleisher Art Memorial program of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is the oldest community-based art program in America.

(Note that the artist's brown tape around the edges was used to hold the work to her easel. It will easily be covered over when matting and framing the piece if desired.) See less
