Both pieces have a wonderful spalted wood veneer (although the graining is more pronounced on the bed) that is a reddish brown with black graining. Additionally, they have a gold sycamore inlay of foliate rinceaux with Gothic rosettes, both of which are often seen on Restauration furniture. Every panel is also surrounded by a thin inlay border that adheres to the form of the wood, with the exception of the back sides, which were typically placed against the wall.

The bed, known as a lit bateau, has high-rising end posts that terminate in scrolls, which is a hallmark of a sleigh bed. A custom mattress is needed to fit the interior, which is 73 x 44 (inches), and with the roller feet, it would make a fantastic addition to a guest or children’s bedroom. The chevet, which has a gray marble top with white veining, could be used as a nightstand in the same room, or it could be used as a side table in just about any room of the house, such as in the bathroom, hallway, or living room. There is a belt drawer and two small shelves behind the door, with the uppermost shelf having a dark gray marble top with cream inclusions. See less
