A brief statement from the artist: Victor Mirabelli
His approach is undisciplined, free spirited an abandonment from the traditional, resulting in something "fresh and imaginative".
Since his arrival from Seattle in 1975, Victor Mirabelli has been painting his surroundings. New York serves as a backdrop for creating very explosive, bold, graphic works mirroring the City's electricity and tension. Each work is the result of “chance taking” and Mirabelli's fresh approach combined with a technique of layering pigments and unique brush and scrubbing techniques, create a painterly quality that is his signature mark. He pursued his formal art education at the Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle and shortly afterwards moved to New York to fulfill a lifetime dream. As his surroundings change, his work echoes the tone and esthetics of his new environment.
Today, living in the Hudson Valley, Mirabelli also experiments with creating a series of abstract structural paintings that reflect the mood and atmosphere of the region—detail is characterized by his use of contrasting light against dark while his muted palette represents the purity and simplicity of the land.
Mirabelli has worked in many mediums oils, pastels, and watercolors on a multitude of surfaces: canvas, paper, and wood. He has exhibited extensively in both solo and group juried shows. Private collectors throughout the US have acquired his work. He has served as a guest lecturer and juror for many art organizations and competitions. Mirabelli has been a past associate member of the northeast watercolor society, a member of the Catskill Art Society and the Kent Art Association, and a sustaining associate member of the American watercolor society.
