A magnificent pair of weighted sterling silver candlesticks made in 1816 by the Birmingham, England silver shop of the famed … Read more A magnificent pair of weighted sterling silver candlesticks made in 1816 by the Birmingham, England silver shop of the famed master silversmith Mathew Boulton(1728-1809). The candlesticks bear the initials MB and are fully hallmarked. The inventory numbers of 21:16 and 21:17 imprinted on the candlesticks indicate they were made in succession and are a true pair made around the same point in time. The candlesticks are executed in high neo classical style with acanthus leaf decoration. They are in excellent condition with only a few dings and scratches associated with age and usage. The bobeches--one of which has a slight bend-- both bear the Boulton mark but are very slightly different in decoration, although virtually unnoticeable. The candlesticks are huge, measuring 14" tall and having a base diameter of 6.5". They weigh about 5 pounds each. See less
