An Art Deco style Waylande Gregory Studios white and 22 karat gold trimmed giraffe dish.
Waylande Gregory was named in 1941 “the most brilliant sculptor working in ceramics” by The New York Times, and “a virtuoso in ceramics.” Born in Baxter Springs, Kansas, in 1905, he died in 1971. His work is in permanent collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution. Waylande Gregory counted among his most ardent admirers Henry Fonda, Charles Lindbergh, Albert Einstein, actresses Dolores del Rio and Joan Bennett, and actress and interior designer Elsie de Wolfe.
