An extraordinary pair of monumental late 19th-century Moroccan hand-painted wooden riad doors from Fez, Morocco, featuring intricate polychrome decoration, traditional geometric and floral motifs, and beautifully weathered surfaces that reflect more than a century of architectural history.
Standing an impressive 117 inches tall, nearly 10 feet, these antique Moroccan doors are remarkable examples of traditional Moorish architectural craftsmanship. Each door displays its own distinctive decorative composition, creating a fascinating contrast between the two panels while maintaining a harmonious overall appearance.
The left door features a series of recessed rectangular wooden panels decorated with delicate hand-painted scrolling arabesques and stylized floral motifs in muted ochre, cream, and warm orange tones. Its original reddish-brown painted surface has developed a richly layered patina, with natural fading and traces of earlier finishes.
The right door presents a more elaborate architectural design, featuring richly painted geometric medallions, colorful floral ornamentation, and a distinctive recessed arched composition. Its intricate decoration incorporates shades of burnt orange, ochre, blue, green, and deep red, reflecting the artistic traditions associated with historic Moroccan interiors.
Both doors incorporate smaller inset sections, a characteristic feature of traditional Moroccan architectural joinery. Original-style iron ring hardware and visible wooden structural elements enhance their authentic architectural character.
The surfaces retain extensive age-related wear, paint loss, abrasions, and distressed edges, giving these monumental antique doors the unmistakable presence of historical architectural artifacts. Their weathered condition is integral to their visual appeal and should be preserved rather than heavily restored.
Traditionally associated with the grand riads, courtyard residences, and historic architecture of Fez, these doors embody the decorative richness of Moroccan craftsmanship and the enduring influence of Islamic geometric and floral ornamentation.
Today, this exceptional pair can be displayed as monumental architectural wall art, incorporated into a custom doorway installation, or used as decorative Moroccan architectural panels in a grand entryway, Mediterranean villa, luxury residence, boutique hotel, or sophisticated interior.
Their exceptional height, contrasting hand-painted designs, and original aged surfaces make them particularly compelling for collectors of antique Moroccan architectural salvage, Moorish decorative arts, and historic North African craftsmanship.
An impressive pair of antique Fez riad doors, offering authentic character, architectural scale, and the timeless beauty of Moroccan hand-painted woodwork.
