FRIDEGART GLATZLE (born 1920) graduated from high school in 1940 and then attended the Albrecht Leo Merz School of Applied Arts in Stuttgart from 1946 to 1947. After training as a potter from 1947 to 1949 at the Hinz pottery in Leinfelden, she passed her journeyman's examination in Stuttgart in 1950 and at the same time attended the technical college for ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen, graduating in 1951. In the same year, she was employed at the State Majolica Manufactory in Karlsruhe, where she significantly influenced the appearance of series production over the following three decades with over 1,200 form designs. In addition, she created an extensive studio collection of hand-glazed works, including numerous unique pieces.
In ceramic production, crackle patterns are formed during firing due to the different expansion coefficients of the substrate and glaze; Raku ceramics, which originated in Japan, in particular, have corresponding surfaces.
Glatzle's crackle works were based on the Japanese method of production.
