Known as France Modern (the official Coat of Arms of France), the heraldic escutcheon has three fleur de lys charges and is topped by a closed crown with a fleur de lys finial. The finial bisects the date “1663” at the top. Beneath the heraldic display are two laurel branches that are bound by a ribbon below the shield. A thin molding envelops the roughly square fireback with angular top corners, giving a little more depth. The fireback has an orange and beige patina, indicative that it was used for decades in a French fireplace. It could also be used as a wonderful backsplash for a kitchen range. See less
