Signed verso, 'George Wilburton Colby' (American, 1859-1922) and dated 1920.
George Colby was a member of the old Art League and a life member of the Chicago Art Institute. After his formal studies, he spent three years studying and traveling in Europe and, subsequently, maintained studios in both Massachusetts and New York. Colby exhibited widely and with success, including at the National Academy in New York, the Salon des Artistes in Paris, the Society of Independent artists and the Chicago Historical Society.
