The elegant vase is covered in a white glaze with a tint of celadon blue. It prominently features two large archaic-form Hanja (Chinese) characters: Longevity and Wealth. The underglaze inscription was written in a dark shade of cobalt, each set in a petalled-shape cartouche double blue line.
This type of bottle was used traditionally to hold liquor such as wine, probably in a wealthy aristocratic household, on the occasion of banquets. The octagonal form coupled with decoration by the minimalistic inscriptions makes this bottle attractive. There is some patina on the glaze that appears to be due to the stain of the liquor seeping through the vase from long-term use. The vase was from a Japanese collection and comes with a later tomobako storage box.
