The blue silk panel features two large bundled sheathes of wheat, freshly harvested from the field. The embroidery work was entirely done in couched stitches with gold metallic threads. The sight measures approximately 29.25" x 25.125".
Fukusa panel was traditionally used as wrapping cloth for the gift presented on the important occasions such as weddings. They tend to be textile art form on their own and often showcase elaborate needlework or yuzen dye and painting. The images on the panel were relevant to the occasions. The design of the wheats bearing abundant seeds was likely intended for a wedding gift as symbols of fertility. See less
