The jug has a matte, unglazed exterior that contrasts beautifully with its glazed interior, highlighting the craftsmanship of the piece.

It is clearly marked on the underside with an impressed ADAMS mark. According to Geoffrey Gooden's "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks" this mark was used on earthenware from 1800 to 1864 by Staffordshire potters William Adams & Sons (page 21).
