At the initiative of President Theodore Roosevelt, the Cruise of the Great White Fleet, 16 battleships of the US Atlantic Fleet started their trip around the world circa December 1907. The cruise's objective was to project America's power abroad through a strong Navy. This kind of silk work was done in Yokohama Japan around the turn of the century catering to western visitors who had them custom-made as souvenirs / memorials of their voyage. It comes ready to display in its original frame. Photographed through glass which explains reflections. in very good condition with minor imperfections to frame as shown.
