In addition to its intended use, piece makes a gorgeous standalone decorative object or box; and could work in this manner for jewelry or other small items utilizing the internal inkwell area and lower tray/base area, close-ups in images. Piece features beautiful gold gilt bronze detail including 'Rams head' on either side, leaf finial tops, beading, etc. Ink glass cup insert shown and appears to have never been used.
