The lithograph print museum poster is printed in Great Britain in 1993 in an unnumbered limited edition, published by The Tate Gallery Publications Department, Millbank London for The Tate Gallery " National Collection of Modern Foreign Painting ". It features an iconic Modernist artwork image originally created by Matisse in 1953 titled " The Snail - L'Escargot ". The original painting has been held in The Tate Gallery collection since 1962.

Henri Matisse ( 1869 - 1954 ) the French born artist is known for both his sense of color and his fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The 20th Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art.

After 1948 Matisse was prevented from painting by ill health, although confined to bed, he produced a number of works known as the " Paper Cut - Outs ". They were made by cutting or tearing shapes from paper which had been painted with gouache. Some of these artworks, such as the iconic work " The Snail ", were of very large format. The original artwork " The Snail " was created in The Hotel Regina at Nice France from the summer of 1952 to early 1953.

The rare out of print framed iconic museum poster measures 28 1/8" W X 26 1/2" H X 3/4" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a classic Modern matte satin finish black wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " vintage condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling. There is faint light toning on the outermost margin edges. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
