A colorful antique E. European pine blanket chest with hand painted floral motif. The top typically has the most wear - and this chest is no exception - showing decades of wear with outlined remnants of the original painted design. The back is unpainted, which again is typical - with cross hatched side panels and folk art painted floral and molded panels on the front. The center yellow painted front panel has writing with the date of 1856. Inside is the "candle box" which makes a good lid support when opened. Probably from the former Czechoslovakia region of Eastern Europe. Great for the foot of the bed or as a coffee table.
