An original oil painting on canvas by Harold Dearden, British artist 1888-1962, "Evelyn" scene of a mother and child sitting … Read more An original oil painting on canvas by Harold Dearden, British artist 1888-1962, "Evelyn" scene of a mother and child sitting in the stern of a canal boat, the child holds a duck while a dog looks on, the name of the canal boat "Evelyn" is written on the boat's stern, 22" x 24", signed H. Dearden in the lower right corner front, this work was probably executed during the late 1940's or 1950's, CA number 3948, CA purchased during the spring 2024 from a British auction house. The work has been cleaned and varnished in order to protect the paint film.
The painting has been reframed with a 3/4" white linen liner and an 1 1/8" rounded antiqued gold cap.
Harold studied art at the Rochdale School of Art and at the Royal College of Art. He lived in Swindon and was Head of the Swindon Art School. His works were exhibited at the principal London galleries. He was President of the Swindon Artists Society and an Associate member of the Royal College of Art, London.
He is known for portraying qualities of the working man and high-lighting their contributions to society. See less
