Absolutely stunning vintage credenza made in Brazil probably in the early 50s. The credenza according to the person that we got this beauty from is apparently made out of Jacaranda (Brazilian rosewood). The piece is as you can see fairly large. It has some deep red tones and some areas that appeared to have darkened with time. Most of the original screws are flat head which is a good indicator of the age of the piece. We cleaned all the inside, disinfected all the drawers and polish all the hardware which all appear to be original and from the period. We also moisturized all the piece with orange bee's wax since it was very dried. It had been in a garage for the better part of ten years. The person was told when she bought it with her father that the maker was someone with the name of Joaquim Tenreiro, and looking at his work I could see being attributed to him, however there are no stickers nor labels anywhere. So, it is just a story, but one that could very well be true. We just don't know to be completely hones.
The piece is quite unique and has lots storage. The upper front part of the credenza has a hinge door that pulls down, then there are six small drawers with very large dove tail details. Then there is the unusual space that is covered by a FIXED rattan panel. The person I got this from, explained that it was meant for speakers, but it occurred to me that it is an amazing idea to place modern component that do not want to see, but a remote control is needed. Brilliant just brilliant!
Then the bottom area there are six drawers and adjacent to them two cubbies with two sliding doors each. It looks like there used to be a shelf on each cubby at one point but the person we got it, said that she has lost the shelves many years ago. We could however remake the shelves if you feel that you are going to need them.
The piece is remarkable shape for its age, but it is not perfect. There are few areas where small pieces of veneer are missing and the front of the drawers some are darker than others, we think it might but be patina. Then at the top there is an area where one can clearly see that a small patch of veneer was used to repair it before. However, it is actually a really good job, that one might miss unless paying very close attention.
At one point the piece was estimated to be valued at around $90,000 due to its size, rarity and expensive materials. Whomever buys this will have a museum worthy piece what is sure to make a statement.
Also to be noted the piece is one of one in the world, for what we were told it was something that was custom made by Joaquim Tenreiro for a very specific client.

However if anything they add character to the piece. less
