The viewer sees just the left side of her face as she props herself up to gaze into the sea under a dappled pastel sky. Although painted much later, this work continues with several themes popular in the Pre-Raphaelite style: a strong female character, perhaps a bit rebellious, even mysterious, when placed in this natural setting.
