Antique Pan Box was presented at the end of a dinner. The host would offer a selection of fine
herbs and spices to aid the digestion. The would be rolled in a leaf and popped in the mouth.
The six containers in this museum quality box are copper, lined in tin. The canisters are fitted with lids.
The little miniature curry pots each have the traditional lid and a little brazier in which to light a fire. One canister has an engraved bottom,
The main box is exquisitely worked with a floral and leaf design. It is quite heavy. The sturdy hinges and locks are made of very thick copper.
For the person looking for a really old box, the scaling under the front lock missed being removed. There are also a very heavy scaling left in one of the containers, The box was
cleaned up for sale.

A purist might wish it had never been cleaned, but it is delightful and possible to use in its present form. No wear marks or any need to handle gingerly. I bought it in lahore in about 1977 when I lived in Pakistan. I had an antiquarian bring pieces he had collected. i was studying folk arts. less
