Featuring four large drawers below and two side by side smaller drawers above, this rectangular chest of drawers exhibits a thoroughly contemporary design. The drawers open via round pulls painted to match and the piece sits on a simple rail base. The dark lacquer covering the elmwood creates a robust and radiant red patina. This use of dark and red lacquer reminds one of the centuries old traditional Chinese mastery in lacquered wood. Thanks to its great combination of contemporary design and a traditional technique, this large Chinese, late 20th century dark lacquered elmwood chest would be a stunning storage unit in any home, particularly in a bedroom, perhaps illuminated by a small lamp.
