This 19th century Chinese console table – originally an altar table – carries a dark lacquer and features side molding and a carved frieze. A frieze with carved foliage and dragon patterns adorns the junction between the top and the legs. Dragons are an auspicious traditional Chinese motif. The sides showcase a fretwork panel with a decorative molding. This large table was used as an altar for ceremonial vessels, particularly as related to cults related to ancestors. This Chinese circa 1800s dark lacquer console table (altar table) with molding would be an elegant decorative item in most rooms, perhaps in a dining room where it can be used as a side table or to showcase decorative items.
