This monk is seated on his knees, his hands resting on his lap as he seems to gaze straight ahead. He wears a monastic dress covering only his left shoulder. His head seems to have been shaved, resulting in an enhancing of the serenity of his face and highlighting the length of his ears. The drapery and the face details are carved with finesse in alabaster, which is a softer and lighter stone than marble. The statue is mounted on a black base. This 18th-19th century Burmese Mandalay style alabaster statue of a monk would be an impressive decorative item in a variety of rooms, such as on bookshelf in a den, on a mantle in a living room or perhaps even on a vanity in order to help begin each day with a positive influence.
