This sign features a hand-carved and varnished wooden panel surrounded by a black painted frame. The panel depicts two characters wearing large dresses, perhaps scene costumes, and hanging puppets. The artist, skillfully carving this piece, paid great attention to the details, and highlighted them with painted accents. The back remains uncarved. This antique Chinese 19th century hand-carved puppet show sign would be an uncommon decorative item in most homes, perhaps in a living room where it would no doubt add a stylish touch in any decoration.
