A magnificent rare First Edition photogravure of 16th Century Conical Parade Helmet. The piece has ear guards, a neck guard which passes through the visor. Inlaid with gold and set with rubies and turquoises. The decoration consists of Koranic inscriptions, especially parts of the "Victory Sura" and of the profession of faith; in addition characteristic dentated leaves and arabesques are applied. Ottoman, 16th century. Height 11.75"H, diameter 8.25". Treasury of Topkapu Palace Museum.
The photogravure comes from a rare First Limited and Only Edition art folio published in Switzerland in the 1940s. Gold foil overlay. Printed on one side. Hand tipped on a sheet of heavy paper. Numbered at the lower right corner: 10. Excellent condition - never framed.
