A rare photogravure of Circular Steel Mirror With Fine Gold Inlays Set On A Long Handle. The main scene on the reverse combines the representation of a Turkish prince or courtier hunting on horseback with the theme of St. George killing the dragon. Frame of real and fantastic animals of heraldic, astrological or magic significance. Seljuk, early 13th century. Length, 16 and 1/8". Topkapu Palace Museum, Istanbul.
The photogravure comes from a rare art folio published in Switzerland in the 1940s. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a board of heavy paper. Numbered at the lower right corner: 4. Excellent condition - never framed.
