Found in France, an oil on linen landscape painting, mounted in a wide, gold-leafed wood frame, signed and dated 1919.
Painted by the French artist Marc Mongin, the scene is typical of the small farms seen in the Provençe region of Southern France.
A windmill features prominently and rolled haystacks dot the landscape. Two figures, a man and woman in traditional dress, along with a donkey can be seen in the midground.
Rendered in a loose, painterly style in lovely sun-lit colors, indicative of the period.
The linen is attached to wood stretchers with small nails and set into a wide frame with an egg and dart inner frame. The original hanging rings are attached to the verso.
A charming painting, even better in person. Wonderful color.
Exterior frame dimensions: 14.25 in. W x 11.5 in L x 2 in. H
The painting itself measures: 10.25 in. W x 7 in. L x 1 in. H
Both the oil painting and the frame are in very good antique condition with the expected signs of age and wear.
