It is a streamline moderne … Read more We present to you another classic 1930's bent chrome steel tube piece from our collection. It is a streamline moderne console with a polished chrome base and a half-circle glossy black laminate table top with extruded aluminum edge banding.

This sexy piece was designed in the pre-world war II era when the Art Deco style was stripped of it's excessive ornamentation in an effort to "streamline" the aesthetics. Since this occurred during the great depression era, the new aesthetic was actually a representation of the austerity of the times. The use of rounded shapes instead of sharp angles was not only a cost-saving measure but also gave hard materials such as steel tubing a visually dynamic yet smooth or soft appearance.
