This still life painting is by the American artist Ralph Gagnon and dates to 1954. Here the artist has combined items ranging from an Egyptian sphinx, books, lemons and apples in intense, yet saturated colors.

Biography: Ralph Gagnon
An abstract painter, he was born May 20, 1919 and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. Gagnon lived and worked in Boston in the 1950s and 1960s where he exhibited between 1952 and 1958 at Nova Gallery, Stanhope Street, and at the Carl Siembab Gallery on Newbury Street.
He never married and died on December 29, 1996, in Manchester, Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
