This spectacular luster glaze ironstone transferware plate is in the hard to find "Vaquero" pattern. The wonderful center scene with the vaquero and his horse is in a pleasing indigo and tan. A vaquero is a horse-mounted livestock herder and became the foundation for the North American cowboy. The graceful design on the border is also in tan with raised details. This plate came from a highly curated equestrian inspired estate where everything was unique and special. A very choice plate that could be used as a soup or salad plate, or a lovely display.
Circa 1850. Elsmore & Forster was an earthenware and parian manufacturers in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. They operated as Elsmore & Forster from 1853 to 1871.
The impressed hallmark reads: "ELSMORE & FORSTER"
"TUNSTALL"
Measuring approximately: 9.5" in diameter.
Please see all the photos for further clarification on condition and feel free to ask any questions that aren't answered here. When I rubbed my hand around the outside rim I came across only one tiny rough spot, original from production. Antique items have been previously owned and loved, and will show some level of wear consistent with this prior use. The paint has wear in areas, especially around the edges of the plate. I tried to capture the raised design, please see photo #10. Please note that colors of products shown may vary slightly due to monitor display settings or photography studio lighting.
