An excellent vintage period offset lithograph, print, after oil painting The Actor (1904-1905) by Pablo Picasso. Comes from a limited edition of XVI prints from Picasso's Blue and Rose periods portfolio, published in the mid of 20th c. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a board of heavy paper. Information regarding the original painting will be found by lifting the piece. Excellent condition - minor edge wear on the board, never framed.
Overall 11"W x 14.75"H
Image 5.85"W x 10.25"H
The Actor is almost life size. The sentimental pathos has for a moment disappeared. And the monochrome of blue surrenders to a palette still subdued but different in tonality.
In comparison with The Old Guitarist, or the Woman Ironing (we offer for sale both these lithographs at our Print Shop at Chairish), the figure is less cramped within the frame of the picture and moves freely in the space around it. The sinuous turns of the arms, torso, and legs differ from the angular and flat distortions of the mentioned above paintings.
