Antique 19th century oil on panel of a French battle scene with a dying nun clutching her rosary and being held by a Zouave soldier.
Signed lower right with a monogram M and inscribed "d'apres Beauquesne" indicating it is a period copy of a Wilfrid Constant Beauquesne (1847 - 1913) who is famous for his depictions of battles.
The label of the art dealer Baptiste Guerard at 204 Rue de Rivoli, Paris on the back.
