A 19th century French Empire Period cheval, or psyche mirror, crafted from solid walnut with a distinctive wood grain and waxed patina. Classic Neoclassical Empire design elements, featuring sleek columns on each side topped with turned egg finials and supported by sturdy arched trestle legs. The central rectangular mirror panel is mounted on a swivel axis, allowing it to tilt back and forth for adjustable viewing angles. Nice proportions and large in scale for a tabletop mirror. Thick mirror has some silvering and light scratches. Bottom bar has a burn mark on the back likely from a candle. Solid brass screws. All original and excellent quality for the age. Circa 1800-1810
