Artist Biography
"A Nancy Mishkin sculpture captures a moment in time; be it childlike wonder or womanly grace, her work captivates tohe eye and engages the heart." Mrs Mishkin specializes in studies of children and the female form. She alternately uses both wax and clay materials, but most often her finished works are limited edition bronzes.
Nancy Mishkin was born in Germany the child of two Holocaust survivors. Barely two years old when her family immigrated to the United States, Nancy learned to view America from the divergent perspectives of an immigrant and a native as her family built a new life deep in the heart of Texas. The family later moved to Los Angeles where Mrs. Mishkin lives today.Mrs. Mishkin began to study sculpting int he late 1980's and discovered she had a natural talent for it. She channeled her emotional sincerityy into breathtaking studies of the femail form. What started as just another hobby, grew into an obsession. As sculptures began to fill her home, she expanded her expertise from femail nudes to child portraiture. Soon she had her own studio built to accommodate her need as an artist.
As Thomas Edison once said, "Genius is one percent inspiration and niney-nine percent persperations." Nancy is tireless in the betterment of her art; she even studies biology and physics to determine realistic proportions and positions to express her ideas. She travels around the world to study with some of the finest sculptors alive.Nancy's work as paid off. Local acclaim brought Mrs. Mishkin under the national spotlight, where she is now frequently commissioned for such prestigious organizations as the Grossman Burn Center, Music Center Los Angeles and the House Ear Institute.
