This beautiful oil-on-board painting was created by Pierre-Edmond Peradon (1893 - 1981).
This is a large-size oil painting by the well-listed French Post-Impressionist painter, Pierre-Edmond Peradon. The colors are bold with a green palette, giving the scene a fresh feeling.
This superb oil-on-panel offers a peaceful and luminous landscape with geometric fields and mountains in the background. The soft light envelops the vigorous touch of the artist. The painter found his inspiration in this bucolic landscape. The tones are sustained, and the colors are vibrant.
This painting is poetic, and its structure and color palette owe much to Paul Cezanne's works.
Peradon’s undulating French landscape owes much to Post-Impressionist Movement in his choice of earth tonalities and simplification of form, yet it is highly lyrical in rendition.
A hand-written inscription at the back of the panel reads Alpes de Haute Provence - 70.
Newly reframed in an elegant gilded carved wood frame and beige fabric jutte liner.
Measurements:
With frame: 28.74 in wide (73 cm) x 24.41 in high (62 cm).
Opening view: 23.23 in wide (59.5 cm) x 18.90 in high (48.5 cm).
The last two pictures show the board before reframing.
About:
Pierre Edmond Peradon (France, 1893 - 1981) was born in Courseulles in Calvados on August 3, 1893. He died on July 4, 1981, in Courseulles, his birthplace. He was born into a comfortable bourgeois home, and he had the luxury of enjoying his artistic career without the necessity of selling his paintings. He spent much of his time writing poetry and socializing with members of various art circles within Paris. Peradon exhibited his artworks in the most prominent salons and at the Galerie Gerbe in Paris in 1925 and 1930.
The paintings of Peradon follow the cubism style and are influenced by the French tradition of portraying poetic reality. He has fond memories of the azure blue sea along the Normandy coasts, the expansive bocage provinces, and the endless beaches merging with the horizon. He exhibited and stayed in France in Nevers, Blois, Paris, and Caen from 1912 to 1930, and Alsace, Nièvre, Alps, Savoie, and Provence from 1945 to 1981. In 1944, he did not hesitate to paint the Normandy landings. From this historical period, he will leave rare watercolors. His paintings of the landing restore an infinity of testimonies, and their power of realistic evocation marks a suspended time.
His works are composed of thin layers of oil paint that are diluted and applied in flat brushstrokes to the canvas, creating a luminous and harmonious pictorial surface. The ethereal quality of his works is due to a limited but cohesive color scheme and the absence of apparent brushstrokes, both of which contribute to rendering a highly atmospheric effect to the composition.
