The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (French: Exposition Internationale des arts décoratifs et Industriels Modernes) was a World's fair held in Paris, France, from April to October 1925. The French government created it to showcase the new style of modern architecture, interior decoration, furniture, glass, jewelry, and other decorative arts in Europe and worldwide. The Exhibition showcased groundbreaking ideas from the international avant-garde in architecture and applied arts, marking their first-ever presentation.
The venue for the event was situated on both banks of the Seine River, stretching from the Les Invalides esplanade to the entrances of the Grand Palais and Petit Palais.
Fifteen thousand exhibitors from twenty countries participated in this show, and sixteen million visitors attended during its seven months of opening.
The "Modern Style" presented at the exposition later became known as "Art Deco," named after the Exhibition's Name. See less
