Art Deco bronze sculpture by Maurice Guiraud-Riviere (French, 1881-1947). A scarce untitled work often called woman with goats or "Nymphe et Chevrreaux" it features a nude young woman sitting on the ground playing with two small goats.
Signed Guiraud Riviere upon the marble. Very good condition.
This work measures 28 inches wide, 18 inches high and a maximum 9 1/4 inches deep atop her 7 3/4 inch deep marble plinth.

Maurice Guiraud-Rivière was born in Toulouse, France on February 10, 1881 and died in 1947. He was multitalented; a painter, draftsman, and sculptor.
He was a student at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts with Antonin Mercie also a native of Toulouse. Exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1907, and also at the Salon des Comedians.
He is best known as an Art Deco sculptor of numerous statues; mainly of women, sports figures or of aviation and automotive themes.
Most of his works were editioned by Etling House, which was founded in 1909. They were very active in publishing Art Deco bronzes representing many sculptors of this artistic movement.
Maurice Guiraud-Rivière is also known for its automobile mascots. He is one of the sculptors who created some of the best known mascots in the golden age of this production (1919-1930).
