After graduating from high school, Burriss studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Burriss moved back to Belding, and opened a sign shop on North Pleasant St., in a building formerly known as the Willard Johnson Building.“He drew pictures for the local newspaper before photography was available. He was known as a ‘jolly’ guy and a ‘real nice fellow.’ He was also a musician, playing the drums in a band at the Star Theatre for silent movies. The theatre was on the corner where Leppink’s is now,” Mehney said. See less
