This traditional memento mori memorial scene features two grieving women at a grave for Mark Dexter Spear and his son Mark Spear Jr from 1825 and 1826. What makes this piece interesting is that the Spear’s died on Martha’s Vineyard and were most likely sailors, the painting has a small sailboat off to the left side.

Condition: Good antique condition although heavily darkened. Some surface wear and fauxing and dodging spots.
