This is just a great original piece. I recently acquired an outstanding collection of photography that comes from the corporate collection of an large and important United States bank. The particular location of the bank was sold and the collection of art went to auction. Some truly wonderful works all archival framed and ready to hang. I am offering quite a few of them in the coming weeks. This is one of a wonderful work by important photographer Fred Stein. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is an image from his New York portfolio. This is a wonderful gelatin silver photograph of young child in a pedal car in New York City. Excellent black and white image measuring 15 x 14 1/2 inches. I have not examined this out of the frame but my belief is that this is an example of the photograph that was printed later and not in 1944 when the photograph was originally taken. Beautiful wood frame ready to hang, perhaps a few small scuffs. Frame measures 25 1/2 x 25 inches. This photograph comes with the original lucite label that hung on the wall below the photograph. If you like these New York photographs, check my store for the others I am offering. All in the same frames so a presentation of more than one would really be beautiful.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the gallery that represents his estate reads: "Fred Stein was a pioneer of Modern photography; during his lifetime he associated with such luminaries as Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Philippe Halsman, and André Malraux. Born in Dresden, in his early twenties Stein fled to Paris after the Nazis came to power in Germany. It was there that Stein bought his first camera, a small-format 35mm Leica, and became a photographer. His photographs from this period demonstrate his commitment to humanist values, especially his concern for the poor and the downtrodden. However, equally evident is his keen eye, and his ability to capture compelling compositions.
