This is a wonderful original. This is another item I am selling from my personal collection. I have held on to them for quite a while and have been on the look out for additional examples anywhere. Since I have owned them, I have not find another example anywhere on the internet. Not for sale, not in institutions and no other mentions anywhere. I acquired these from a dealer who told me he acquired them from someone that worked at Mil-Art. I imagine these were created by the company and sent out in press folders to institutions, newspapers, and dealers. Being that the fabrics were so exclusive I dont imagine they created too many press kits. These were not for just anyone. I have found an outstanding explanation of the history of these fabrics at an exhibition of Cooper Hewitt Museum. I have included that explanation below. This is a wonderful group of 6 original press photos measuring 8 x 10 inches. All are in excellent condition with just some very minor handling marks. Included you get 3 images of fabrics created by Salvador Dali (Afternoon Stones, Spring Rain, and Beste Elenique), 3 by George Nelson, the father of American Modernism (Terrain, Pavement, and China shop) and one by Bernard Rudofsky (Wheels). All are really incredible. Each photograph has the original company stamp on the back and also has the original typed description attached to the bottom verso. Really about as cool as you are going to find. These framed would make an incredible presentation. Do your own research on these photographs. Not sure you are going to find any others out there.
The Cooper Hewitt Museum exhibition back in 2016 described this Stimulus line of fabrics this way: "In the aftermath of World War II, a number of textile producers attempted to revitalize the industry by enlisting recognized personalities in art and architecture to design screen prints. “Perhaps the most outstanding name collection is Stimulus Fabrics produced by Schiffer Prints,” Alvin Lustig wrote in American Fabrics Magazine in 1951. “There was not a professional fabric designer in the group, but nevertheless a distinguished collection was established.”[1]
