This is a wonderful original. This is one of 2 original Harold Rome paintings I recently acquired that came from an estate in New York. I had only seen one of the artist's works in the past but always was fascinated by them. Rome was such an important Broadway writer and composer I was shocked he was also such a talented artist. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful original mixed media painting, mostly oil on paper board measuring 20 x 24 inches. Signed lower right. Painting is in wonderful as painted condition. Might be a slight layer of surface grime but otherwise it is an outstanding example. There is some small chipping in the very bottom right corner but otherwise an excellent work. Simple metal frame lined with painted green bamboo is complimentary and ready to hang. On the back is the original title. Frame measures 21 1/2 x 25 1/2 inches. If you collect Rome's work, check my store for the other I am offering. A great chance to acquire 2 special works by this important 20th Century artist.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from a gallery that sells the artist's work reads: "Harold Jacob Rome (May 27, 1908 – October 26, 1993) was an American composer, lyricist, and writer for musical theater. He was also an artist and art collector. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Rome played piano in local dance bands and was already writing music while studying architecture and law at Yale University. After graduation he worked as an architect in New York City, but continued to pursue his musical interests, arranging music for local bands and writing material for revues at Green Mansions, a Jewish summer resort in the Adirondacks. Much of the music Rome was writing at this time was socially conscious and of little interest to Tin Pan Alley, or that which appeals to the masses..
