"Fish" tapestry, woven in wool, Olga Fisch, Mid-century, 1980s - Ecuador
Magnificent and fun tapestry hand-embroidered in Ecuadorian sheep's wool with geometric fish motifs, bead details, and finished with brown tassels at the bottom. Designed by Olga Fisch, it is woven and dyed by hand by the artisans of Olga Fisch Folklore. The animals stand out against an orange background, arranged asymmetrically. A very original gift idea.
About Olga Fisch Folklore
Olga Fisch Folklore is an Ecuadorian brand founded in 1942 by Olga Fisch, a Hungarian Jewish Bauhaus artist who arrived in Ecuador in 1939. She quickly fell in love with Ecuadorian popular culture, full of colors and textures. She soon began to apply all these influences to her own designs, working hand in hand with local artisans and providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and talents. Among her most famous designs are her rugs, which have been featured at MoMA, Lincoln Center, the UN building, and several other renowned collections.
The company continues to uphold the same values today, striving to promote co-creation and collaboration with different artisans, contributing to the growth and preservation of local crafts. Together, they create unique and meaningful pieces that embody Ecuador's rich cultural heritage. Guided by four generations of women, they proudly carry on Olga Fisch's legacy.
