Heavily carved walnut Rococo Library Table. Leather top with inlaid wood. 1 drawer. Made by By J. & J.W. Meeks. The top piece has been replaced.
From 1797 to 1869, J. & J.W. Meeks was a New York City-based furniture manufacturer known for its superior furniture. The business was established in 1797 by John Meeks, and in 1836 it changed its name to J. & J.W. Meeks and relocated to a new site close to the Astor House. Numerous institutions, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Columbus Museum, and the Historic New Orleans Collection, have furniture from the business on display. A lovely piece.
