Religious statue of Saint Eligius from the 16th century in full wood found in France. This very rare find has a beautiful patina due to its old age. The hand and staff are missing. A true treasure and historical piece. The intricate carvings on the robe showcase the artisan's talent, with every fold. The natural wood grain adds a touch of warmth and authenticity to this unique piece of relic art.
Saint Eligius, was a Frankish goldsmith, courtier, and bishop who was chief counsellor to Dagobert I and later Bishop of Noyon-Tournai. His deeds were recorded in Vita Sancti Eligii.
Eligius is best known for being the patron saint of horses and those who work with them. He is also the patron saint of goldsmiths, metalworkers, coin collectors, veterinarians, and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, a corps of the British Army.
