Brastoff was the … Read more Offering a bright and beautiful floral enamel-on-copper cachepot by mid-20th century American ceramics designer Sascha Brastoff (1918-1993). Brastoff was the founder of a successful production ceramics factory and line that operated in Los Angeles between 1946 and 1962. At its height, Brastoff had amassed an atelier of more than 100 staff artists, production assistants, and administrative personnel to produce his designs of intricately hand-crafted tableware and home decor. Sgraffito and gold lusters were among the numerous decorative techniques used, and multiple firings were often needed to produce each piece. Brastoff was popular with Hollywood's elite, and he achieved additional fame as a commissioned sculptor and designer for television and movies. In 1962, Brastoff returned to the life of a solo studio artist concentrating on enamelwork, oil painting, and drawing.

This lovely cachepot is very much "of the period" with a highly-stylized floral design against a bold metallic green background. It is in excellent vintage condition, with the most notable sign of use being a chip on the ceramic pedestal base. See photos. This minor imperfection does not detract from the overall look and tends to enhance the vintage character of this piece. Signed lower right. See less
