A couple appear to have been taking a nature walk, with him perhaps sharing the history of the Abbey as she sits to rest, while sheep graze in the background. The remaining walls, now in ruins are overgrown with a tangle of vines, adding to the quiet solitude of the space. There is age related craquelure throughout the canvas, but does not detract from the enticing beauty of the painting. The painting is unsigned and mounted in a gilt wood and plaster frame.
