Very decorative collection of modern abstract drawings signed Geza and dated 1988. Attributed to Geza Skobel.
Geza Szobel (1905-1963) is a Hungarian painter naturalized French. He spent his entire career in Paris between 1935 and 1963.
In Paris, Geza Szobel was close to Marc Chagall, Le Corbusier, and worked with Robert Delaunay. His style, semi-figurative, returns to pure figuration with the Second World War - he then engages in France before moving to England - which then inspires him a painting made up of tortured characters and scenes of horror. Françoise de Perthuis recalls that it was after the war that Geza Szobel “returned to great geometric rhythms and exhibited in Paris and in several foreign capitals. His last period is very bare, evolving towards a somewhat cloudy abstraction in white, gray and black shades”.
